The Future is Here: iPhone Credit Card Processing, As Common As Credit Cards

In todays world, we are all looking for convenience.

Automation using digital technology has mostly delivered many conveniences. We can be in touch with our family and friends using cell phones and social networking sites and stay connected for longer and cheaper.

We can buy eTicket for traveling by plane or buy an eTicket for a concert or sports event ticket at a very short notice. Actually in less than a minute we can buy many things digitally and remotely with our credit cards.

But there is still room for even more conveniences, such as accepting a payment from another individual when you are at a, say, ball game or at a concert, at a tradeshow, conference, or on vacation.

iPhone merchant account processingSince many of us have a smart cell phone now (iPhones, Androids, Blackberry, etc.), what would be easier than just having a small device attached to our cell phone and we can easily and quickly accept payment from someone for a product or service we are selling?

Imagine, late at night and you have a burst pipe and need to call a plumber. He comes to your house and see the damage and gives you an estimate for an emergency repair. He pulls out his cell phone and asks you for your credit card for payment for the service. He swipes the card on the side of his cell phone and you get your plumbing fixed and he gets paid. Convenience for you both.

Cell phone wireless credit card processing is one of most convenient ways to process cards remotely or when you are on the road.

To process a credit card using a wireless phone, you will need to get a mobile merchant account. Mobile merchant account is basically the same as other forms of merchant accounts with the single difference that it will allow you to use a remotely connected or wireless connection using one of the following mobile devices: wireless credit card terminals, the Palm, Pocket PC, BlackBerry RIM, and mobile phones like iPhones or Google Phone / Androids.

These mobile devices use a secure wireless protocol and the wireless service you get from your phone company to connect to your credit card processor for authorization of the credit card payment. Therefore, you have no need for a physical phone line and there is no need for a power outlet to connect your credit card machine to.

Mobile merchant processingWireless credit card processing is sometimes referred to as m-commerce which stands for mobile commerce, although it is still a form of electronic commerce. This convenient method allows you to offer customer conveniences, increase your sales, reduce your chargeback and fraud transactions (since customer cannot deny meeting you in person), and you can conduct your business at locations where there are no phone line connections.

If you want to print an invoice or have the need for the presence of a PC or a laptop (e.g. for showing a presentation or design or drawing, etc.), that would work too. You simply connect your cell phone to your laptop and cell phone and process an order away from your office and accept payments from your customers.

A company called Square offers a service that simplifies everything for you. You sign up for an account and you can charge credit cards for a swipe fee of 2.75%. That means that you can swipe the credit card of your customer against a little strip that you can easily attach to your smart phone and your fee for this service (including merchant account and processing fee and payment capture, settlement, and deposit directly into your bank account within 24 hours), would be 2.75% of the amount you charge the transaction. In other words, if you charge you customer $200 for a ticket to a sports venue, your fee for the service would be 2.75% of this total amount, which is $5.50 and that's all.

For keyed in transaction (i.e. if you type in the credit card numbers and expiry date), the fee is increase to 3.5% with a 15 cents transaction fee.

You don't even need to take your wallet out or pull out a credit card.

“This is one of the most easiest solutions for mobile payment processing, far easier and more flexible that Google Wallet, whereby you have to tap your iPhone against a terminal device which cannot easily be made "remote".

With Square, you truly have a seamless credit card payment processing experience,” according to Chantelle Jefferson, Chief Technology Officer at PhonePayment.com mobile merchant services.

There are many benefits to using a wireless or mobile credit card processing solution. These include: mobility, meeting customers at a location of their choice rather than your offices, selling when the customer is most excited, going to customers rather than waiting for them to come to you, staying ahead of your competitors, and instant approval and decline of orders which means knowing how you performed at your sales event.

The question is, can you be without this convenience for too long?
